Miracles from the soup kitchen… feed the world with Shankari…

I have been away from Hawaii for months…
I have a lot of diverse interests and responsibilities.

On my return to the islands I went up to Orchid Parkway for a quick look, to see if everything had survived my absence, before I collapsed into my need for rest.shankari_garden1

I was completely jet lagged and a little delirious from exhaustion that first afternoon as I scurried from the fig tree to the orange trees, Loquat, Avocados and the corn — it was waste high in the center of the first sacred circle I have built on the property… all was well.

I went on down the hill, home to my place, to finally have a good rest.

Today I finally returned to begin to work once more on my vision for a sacred garden and a soup kitchen set up in service to the local community.
When I arrived, I was astounded to discover that while I have been traveling and agonizing over the fate of the world… the sweet corn was growing! This is a miracle!

The corn is growing in about 3 inches of earth on a lava slab in the desert of Ka’u County Hawaii.
This doesn’t sound amazing but think of the miracle that happens every time you plant a seed of any sort!

The sweet corn is laden with ‘ears’ — which is an interesting metaphor under the circumstances… and these ears are as sweet as you have ever tasted!

Metaphorically the work of feeding the community has already begun… the builders told me they have been happily eating from the source since I have been gone… in service to the community… does mean everyone!shankari_garden2

I am sooo excited by the project… and willing to share the dream with whoever comes my way and wants to contribute with love and compassion… I have a dream that the soup we make will be the most delicious and healing soup in the world!

The corn, the figs, the tomatoes… there is evidence I have already enrolled help from the Fairy Kingdom and the Angelic realm… miracles appear every day…

Perhaps you will be my next miracle?

If there is anyone out there who would like to join in the fun please contact Lily here in the Hawaii office at 808 929 7564 or send an email to feedtheworld@shankari.com

I have had a vision, finally….

I am a very visual person, without a vision it is very hard for me to act.
When I am not in motion “doing something” I go into self criticism.
It’s a strange dynamic when you think about it.

quanyin_consortsWe come from a culture that frowns on open space…. too much free time and open space is dangerous.
You might stop and ask yourself how you really feel if you have too much free time on your hands… idle hands do the devils work!

But then again, we must have ‘time for self’ or we will go completely crazy or at least become physically unbalanced and eventually sick and tired of everything.

The vision I had was somewhat of an evolution, arriving in parts, like a puzzle.

First … in real life, I was made custodian of a life size, porcelain and gold, standing Quan Yin.
This is definitely not living room furniture… she and her two life size consorts, an old man carrying a child and a dragon staff and a younger man carrying yet more children in his arms and on his shoulders… and scrolls that would appear to be “the law”.

These three potent sculptural representations of cosmic law and compassion currently take up the better part of my front porch with the White Owl Mosaic.

I was feeling crowded and yet honored to have their presence at the Mystery School in Hawaii.
Slowly things have unfolded… or at least it feels slow when you are in the eye of the hurricane.
The land has appeared to build the temple… the vision was of that temple, with it’s breadth and height… the heart wood of four fur trees was immediately manifested and donated as the Pillars of the New Temple to Peace in Hawaii. Since then I have had constant visions of pathways and sacred geometric grids, gardens and flowering trees.

It’s underway… the tide is changing and compassion is returning to the hearts of humankind.
I have heard recently of honey gathered from rooftop gardens in Manhattan… and of ‘guerrilla gardening’ becoming a fad across the planet…. god bless everyone learning to grow food again and applying their imaginations to how to do this under impossible circumstances.

I’m excited… jumping out of my skin with the adventure of creation looming before me.
I’m building a food garden within a labyrinth of sacred symbols and silent spaces.

Where I live there is no dirt.
I mean absolutely no earth…. simply rocks.
There is no water unless you buy it and truck it in, there are trade winds that irregularly blow at 40mph…
I’m bored if its not almost impossible…
that must be why I got the job!

I lay in bed at night and ponder things like how to pull water from the air for the food garden…
I think I have figured it out by the way.
I lay awake and think of ways to turn a desert into a garden for the sake of all it will feed, in all the different ways it will contribute to the community at large…

Food is important, food for the spirit, food for the eyes and food for the body… my vision is to provide all these things in one sacred place… activated for deep and permanent healing of the individual soul.

Why not?
Life must continue to be a challenge and an adventure until the day we die…. or we are already dead in some respects just waiting for the rest to catch up.
Plan a garden of your own.
Invite your friends to come and join in.
I’s a wonderful thing to share the food you have grown with others.
Start with something small… parsley… or tomatoes perhaps… then build to your imagination… the sky is the limit!

I do not believe as a culture we are meant to live with such financial pressure for our daily sustenance and am working on becoming energy efficient in every aspect of my life.

Soon the Hawaii School will be completely off the grid with solar panels — and if I can master this water collection story, it will enable us to live and breathe and create constantly, within an environment that is self sufficient and leaving almost no carbon footprint upon the earth.

Those involved in the creation will be and are fed at a creative level, constantly growing their self-esteem.

I have a friend named Bob, from Michigan.
He had been in Hawaii a few months when he came to visit one day and said, “I’m sorry but I have become homeless and I would like to live in the shed in your green house…. can I do that?”

I said … “You know there have been times when I wanted to move into the shed in the green house myself! Of course you can sleep there until you find a home of your own.”

This was quite a few months ago!
Bob is a trained chef, who has previously held jobs of great importance in big international hotel kitchens… but he has lost his feeling for cooking and now prefers to build rock walls.
The walls he’s built on the property for the Quan Yin Temple and the Peace Garden are amazing.
He expresses such grace and charm that I’m flabbergasted.

In this manner he has rebuilt his self-regard, lost a ton of weight and is genuinely happy for the first time in years!
He may even be interested in food again soon… we are planning to build a big stone oven to bake community bread in the future…

Food and the Magic of form and space… this is my vision and clear intent.

Food shortages… or manipulation of the public?

In Hawaii, over the last few months, late at night, I have had the privilege of watching satellite TV. I often wonder at the advertising… pharmaceuticals in all their forms, to help with every bodily function we have apparently lost control over… it’s scary!

Along with this type of advertising lately, there has been a lot of focus on the poor in America. They show photos of hungry unkempt children and say 1 in every 8 Americans go to bed hungry every day.

Who is this in your community?

What can you do to help? I heard the call… There really are a lot of hungry people in the district… that part is true!

Even though I am not an American, I feel for all humanity… what can I do to help?
I decided to build a soup kitchen in Hawaii to try to help the hungry with homegrown food from my garden for soup and salad.

Shankari's GardenI have purchased the land and this project is underway right now. I expect to be serving soup by June 11 next year.

This is the birthday of the King of Hawaii and a great date to aim at for our local humanitarian purposes.

When I recently returned to Bali; in the silence of my studio, catching up on world events; I felt like a pawn in a much bigger and ugly game after reading in the issue of Newsweek Magazine dated, Feb 23, 2009, page 39 (online version of original article):

During the Depression years of hunger, the New Deal ordered the slaughter of 6 million pigs. The theory (see President Roosevelt’s May 14, 1935, speech on the Agricultural Adjustment Act) was, believe it or not, that one cause of the Depression—in 1935, were people selling apples on the streets; 20.1 percent were unemployed— it was a “problem of overproduction.” Government, FDR said, could keep production and consumption “in reasonable balance” so that farmers could charge “reasonable prices,” as the Government intuited them. Last week Congress was importuned to have the government pay for the slaughter of dairy cattle in order to raise milk prices. Cows should die in Wisconsin so that mothers in Watts will pay a higher price—one that government deems “reasonable”—for milk for their children? The dairy lobby sees opportunity in a New Deal 2.0.

These people have no compassion, no imagination and no sense of flow for the greater good of all people. They are only interested in profit! No wonder 1 in 8 people go to bed hungry each night… There is no one out there who has enough power to think outside the box and make a big enough difference!

I am a firm believer in The Sermon on the Mount.
Jesus affirmed that we were important to God and we would always have enough.
Everything is available to support us and our purpose on earth.
We simply have to have the eyes to see, and the hearts that listen.

Those pigs could have fed a lot of people… and the milk cows???

Perhaps the way milk is handled these days, it’s not the best of foods for anyone, let alone small children, however… who can deprive a hungry child of food? Apparently the government of Wisconsin with the approval of the Feds. When will we wake up as a global culture and realize we have been farmed?!

The more I observe, the more certain I am of this sad fact.
The drug companies make money out of a sickly community.
The food companies (who are subsidiaries of the drug companies) make sure the food is corrupted and will not truly feed and heal the sickly community… who must be kept alive until their last breath, by the medical profession, so every last cent can be drained from their existence.

Success or Failure

Let’s talk about success

In the dictionary success literally means: “the thing that comes next” as in succession…

That makes sense… so when did ‘success’ change from ‘the thing that happens next’ to ‘more money, power and achievement than others’?

In terms of this new definition of success, competition is ingrained… and life has become a race. The winners end up losing their humanity, health and friends along the way…

Somehow we have agreed as a culture that money, power and achievement are far more valuable than health, humor, friendship and the quality of our internal life, in fact, generally it is not held in high esteem to be at peace with yourself, to have something to share with others, to care enough to help our families and friends, to have the time and inclination to want to make a difference where it is unseen… at the heart of the matter…

Plumeria tree blossomsRecently, I asked the Universal Mother through prayer, if she would please arrange a few big Plumeria trees for the garden I am creating in her service….in Australia we call them Frangipani and in Indonesia they are called Kamboja — a universal tropical/desert plant, that survive against the odds…

This plant really engages my imagination and inspires me… the way it conducts itself as a member of the plant kingdom… large branches, when removed and laying beside the road can be resurrected… they can live without earth or water for over a year if they have access to moisture through the air. Their flowers are sweet smelling and delicate… often used in the hair or to make the famous Hawaiian Lei.

When you break them they bleed sticky white blood and if you plant them before they are properly healed, they rot from the inside… and eventually die a long slow death.

In my heart they represent myself and everyone who is asked to ‘live on thin air… survive abandonment, heal ourselves… all the while, looking and smelling beautiful while we’re in the process!

As I said, I asked for a few trees, branches discarded by an enthusiastic tree lopper perhaps…

A friend called me, said she was closing down a furniture factory in Kona and asked if I wanted the broken  pieces they were discarding for my art project, of course I said yes!

On our way to pick it up along a road I rarely travel, there they were — the Plumeria branches laying beside the road, waiting for me to discover them and bring them home to sacred space so they could start their new mission.

At first glance I saw a small pile of branches and felt wonder at the spontaneous answer to my prayers, then I stopped and examined the situation more closely.

There is amazing abundance all around us, we simply have to change the way we think.

In the end it took two days and four trucks to pick up all the Plumeria branches waiting for me on the side of the road and down in the ditch behind the highway…

That was three weeks ago. The locals thought I was insane when I stood them all up with rocks, a plantation of sticks standing for all to see on the cross roads of Orchid and Seabreeze.

Yesterday, they began to flower! By next year it will be a landmark.
All from a small prayer for a few branches.

Right place, right time, right action, then everything falls into place.

Someone else’s problem can become your solution…
That’s the new ‘success!’… the thing that comes next.
True success, is in loving the earth and her people in all the different ways we have at our disposal.

Bringing in the light to the darkest place, can be achieved by a small candle, even a small idea… with enough love and imagination it can lead to a new experience of bliss on earth.
Come and see my trees some time…they will amaze you with their tenacity and forgiving spirit.

The Fig tree

Have you heard of Findhorn?

…an alternative community living in Scotland in the 70’s who activated the earth spirits to help them in their gardening pursuits in the snow…. Ultimately surprising everyone by growing 70 pound cabbages in the freezing fields…
A very similar thing is happening here in Hawaii….

There is little rain, strong winds and not much earth… despite this my garden has taken on a new and amazing personality… growing everything in rapid time with ‘amazing grace’ …

Shankari June CollectionThe Fig tree is one of the most touching… a gift from a friend a few months ago it stands only about 8” or 20cms tall. This little tree has been through the wars… so small it has often been trodden upon by ignorant bystanders and even sometimes by well meaning friends who simply didn’t notice it…. No matter what I said or did it seemed to always be ‘in the way’…. So I moved it to the place I felt it would be safe from ‘helpful’ feet… not far from the Mermaid sculpture, in the front by the entrance to the meditation space… I asked the fairies and earth spirits to take good care of it and then I ‘let it be’… for the past 2 weeks I have not thought of it….

Until yesterday, when I had some friends over from the mainland and I was showing them our progress… all the amazing miracles in the garden… and then there it was…. The fig tree standing proud and strong, with one leaf and one fig the size of a large grape… and growing!
It gave me hope for all of us… it showed me once again that miracles happen and we are designed to survive and succeed… with enough rest and recovery time anything is possible….

It’s a miracle… true evidence of Divine Intent…
I believe it is indeed a symbol of our power to re-grow and change our ‘m.o.’ in service to the earth and her people…. When all else fails remember the fig tree… we all have the power to bear fruit and be of service to each other… now it is time to exercise that power in service to our world

figtreeI had a wonderful teacher once who would often say…’when the mind chatters, make the body work” for this reason I am focusing my energy on building a temple for ‘The Divine Mother of all Creation’ and an associated food garden and soup kitchen for the poor of the district of Ka’u on the southern tip of the Big Island of Hawaii.
I know from personal experience …. When all else fails, if you have the opportunity to wash your body, meditate in a clean, dry, safe place, eat a warm meal and have the experience of someone caring…. You can survive and ultimately succeed against the odds. I want to provide that for my local community here in Hawaii… just as I did for that Fig Tree!

Through the ‘bush telegraph’ we are hearing horror stories everyday… eye witness accounts on the mainland where there are tribes of homeless people living in their vehicles… ‘moved along’ by the local community everywhere they go… armed and becoming more frantic and desperate every day… when you have lost everything that ever mattered to you… anarchy is the next evolution. Civil war soon after…

I do not want that to happen in my district here… so I am preparing for the future, with food gardens and meditation rooms…this is what I can do…. what can you do?

I believe in Gardening!

I know that sounds crazy.

What’s not to believe?

Gardening is real, you don’t have to believe in it to make it true….

shankari's bali boutiqueWhat I mean is… when I look back over my life at the times when I have been the most depressed, or felt displaced, as a natural instinct I would work in the garden to soothe my soul…

Soon enough, I would be having such a good time, I would forget to be depressed and focused on what Mother Nature and I, were creating together.

I remember once being terminally depressed, looking out the window every day,  imagining what would happen if I threw myself out into the abyss… always coming to the conclusion it was simply not high enough and I would get to the bottom and look like an attention seeking fool…

After my worst day I simply had enough…

I ordered a ton or rocks and recreated my backyard.
I planted flowering trees and shrubs, succulents and daisies.
With every moment that my hands were in the earth, my mind was relaxed and my spirit began to heal.

In the end because I had focused my attention on the earth instead on my negative emotions, I had added value to my environment. I brought my mind to rest and my spirit found peace.

As an outcome, I grew more joyful every day. My family was happier and our combined energy began to grow in a new and creative direction.

If you want to ground all that negative energy you carry around… worry, anxiety, fear, grief, resentment, overwhelm, etc….

Take the opportunity to work in the earth…

If you want to set your spirit free…  grow some flowers, plant some vegetables… design a magical environment…

My gardens are all over the world now… I am pleased to say…
Places of peace and beauty…

That’s true Alchemy…

To take one group of energies and through the addition of something secret and special that only you … the alchemist… can provide, you have the power to change your world and the experience the world has of you.

You have the power to alchemize your own depression into a healing force upon the earth.

I am a garden Alchemist, not unlike Rebecca, as I have written about before…

To work with the earth is a blessing… through the gift of the Divine Mother we have the power to transform our world, one plant at a time….

To give up the need for self destruction and depression, transforming the energy into something of beauty and balance that then goes on to feed your spirit day in and day out… a reflection of your relationship with the Divine Mother of All Creation

Grow your own food if you can… it doesn’t take much to have a fresh salad available from your own garden every night….

Become your own healer, learn to ground your negative energy into the earth and have it return to you as Roses!

Why not?
It’s a lot less expensive than the alternative!

How are things?

Hi everyone, how are things in your life?
As far as I can tell, everyone I know is seriously challenged.

There is a lot of talk about ‘recovery’ and ‘investment packages’ by the governments of the world.

But is that really what we want?

For it to go back to how it was?… as a global culture over the last fifty years we have been using up natural resources at an astronomical rate!
That’s what’s really happening.

We have come to a point of global reckoning
I believe that’s what’s reflected from this economic meltdown… We would not change our ways unless we hit the wall like this as a planet!  Unless you are ready to join the military, there may be no job security in the future….yikes!

And the promotion for the military is all over the media….
It’s a new world — forcing us all into a new perception and that’s not such a bad thing.

It’s time to give up the idea of redundant, disposable living!

That’s a way of seeing resources as endless,  so there is no need to be conservative or respectful of  those you are using. This is a frequency of being that has permeated our world to the extent that we do this to our old people as much as our old cars….

We live in a world dedicated to obsolescence in order to stimulate industry and we cannot keep doing this anymore!

My jewelry falls into the category of a luxury item, however I would like you to know we make our jewelry in very conservative, respectful way.

We are very conscious of our carbon footprint and I am proud of my team for their loving, caring energy that goes into every part of the production and distribution of my pieces.

Each piece is designed to rejuvenate your energy, inspire your spirit and remind you in hard times that you are really a Queen or King in service to your people.

Every conscious person on earth has to be diligent. We have all been lulled into the idea of comfort and convenience being our primary agenda when life is so much more.

Life must be full of other things like  passion, creativity, adventure, evolution

None of these pursuits are particularly comfortable or convenient but they are the essence of a healthy life.

The Story of StuffPerhaps this is why people are so depressed?
They are comfortable and isolated…

Unsupported in their creativity or in expressing their passionate soul.

My jewelry is an activator
Designed to support you through these difficult days.

I love you and I believe in you… As I believe in myself and our common destiny as healers of the earth.

I am proud to be part of the generation that will usher in a new world consciousness of love and respect for our beloved Mother Earth.

Talk about throw a party..!

Full moon in Leo… with an eclipse!

Did  you celebrate?

We did, at the Mystery School in Hawaii! I had all my friends and students over and we danced under the stars to welcome the magnificent full moon, it was breathtaking. Swinging to Stevie Wonder on what appears to be the edge of the world and watching the sunset and the moon rise at exactly the same moment. …. It made me think ……

when humans are fighting over the earth we are as ants discussing who owns an elephant…

Our planet is a jewel in the universe… to be treasured not trashed by her custodians.
The feeling of spaciousness hits everyone as they enter the property. Impacted by the beauty and natural wonder of this oasis over looking the sea, deep in the lava desert of the Ka’u Coast, Big Island Hawaii. I am constantly in joy, looking out into the infinite sky above the silvery grey line of the horizon… the power of the earth is undeniable here… where a lava flow can take your house or a hurricane could simply blow you away.

I had a very important revelation throughout the day that made my celebration even more exciting last night. … I have struck earth on my land! I have a back acre I am preparing to turn into a food forest along the principles of perma-culture The area has been barren and wind swept for as long as I have been here, nothing can grow because there is no earth, just raw lava. There is no water, just a heavy dew that’s blown away by the fifty mile an hour trade winds that are frequent and unrelenting.

BUT…. Today as the back hoe was digging the deep trenches to plant in away from the force of the wind we found pockets of real earth! Talk about throw a party! I wanted to fall to my knees in gratitude. It’s hard to imagine a place with no earth if you have never been here. It’s hard to imagine anything really… that’s why the people with vision are often lonely and ungrounded.
I have literally discovered a deep dark warm space where anything will grow, when I thought there was none. . I feel that’s true inside myself as well as inside the earth here.  I feel it is symbolic of a new type of creativity we are being ask to uncover within ourselves, close to the earth, simple and true to the laws of nature.

Blessings to you all this full moon.

May you have a good belly laugh before the week is over!
